Crow’s Feet

You can call crow’s feet “laugh lines” however this slightly more flattering term still refers to the onset of aging. They first may appear in your early thirties, perhaps earlier if a solid skin care regimen is not followed. Regardless, the arrival of crow’s feet around the outside corner of your eyes is as inevitable as the passage of time.

What Causes Crow’s Feet?

Unfortunately, as we get older, our skin loses elasticity. The main reason attributed to this is that our bodies’ natural production of collagen and elastin, the two proteins most prevalent in maintaining a youthful look to our skin, diminishes. Since the skin around your eyes is much thinner, it is often the first to show signs of wrinkles, like crow’s feet.

Time and exposure to the elements, including pollution and sun damage, as well as slower cellular renewal or “skin turnover” are contributing factors as well.

What Can be Done to “Fix” the Appearance of Crow’s Feet?

Preventative care and physician guidance is key. There are a variety of options available to address this concern at MD TLC™.

Crow’s feet are more pronounced when you “flex” the muscles around your eyes, which happens every time you smile, laugh or squint. The use of neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport or Xeomin have been proven to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet by relaxing those muscles so they cannot contract. This non-surgical approach through injection of the botulinum A toxin is FDA-approved with age-defying results lasting 3 to 4 months in most patients.

Skin Care Regimen

Along with daily sun protection, it is wise to seek counsel from your physician and select a skin care regimen that is tailored to your lifestyle and skin type.

Laser Services/Energy Devices

Another possible solution is to address the skin surface (epidermis) and the middle skin (dermis) with laser procedure(s). There are a variety of state-of-the-art lasers and radiofrequency devices at MD TLC™ that are used with great success to stimulate new collagen and elastin production.

During a one-on-one consult with Dr. Quibell, an international laser technology educator, you can explore all of the above options available to address crow’s feet, wrinkles and additional aesthetic goals.
